Nestlé and some of their star apprentices explain the advantages of doing an apprenticeship programme, rather than other options like university.
An apprenticeship is an opportunity to kick start your career straight away and earn while you learn. Here at Nestlé, we’ve been asking some of our apprentices why they think you should follow in their footsteps: here’s what they told us.
1) A foot in the door
An apprenticeship is a great first step into the working world. Getting onto the career ladder can be challenging, but with combined training and experience from day one, an apprenticeship can really help you accelerate your career.
With strong support and guidance available, you can start or continue developing a range of key soft and technical skills, building all- important relationships and ultimately open many doors. With the necessary performance during your apprenticeship, there are great long-term prospects of a successful and progressive career.

2) An informed decision
The vast practical and relevant experience an apprenticeship can provide enables you to make decisions about your future career with a genuine insight and appreciation into what the working world is like. A purely theoretical or academic awareness of industry is great but an apprenticeship can provide a more thorough understanding, with the training and experience alongside.
“At Nestlé, we offer apprenticeships in many functions, and at different levels, to help you find something which matches your strengths and to help us build strong teams for the future.”
3) So much to choose from
Apprenticeships have been available as a career route for a considerably long time, but the range of opportunities available in modern industry is ever growing. Apprentices are an essential and well-valued part of many businesses. So, even if you hadn’t been considering a career path traditionally associated with apprenticeships, you may be surprised to find them as an available option.
For example, at Nestlé, we offer apprenticeships in many functions, and at different levels, to help you find something which matches your strengths and to help us build strong teams for the future.
Here’s James, a Manufacturing Apprentice, to tell you about his experience.
4) A wise investment
An apprenticeship is a debt-free investment in yourself, your skills and your future. You can gain a nationally recognised qualification, at various levels (including debt-free degrees!), but not only are you building your capabilities, you will be earning a good salary alongside.
