Social Media

Working in social media is about more than writing tweets; there are many jobs within this sector, at all sorts of businesses.

Social media management jobs

Social media managers make sure the company they work for maintain a strong presence on all social media channels. A social media strategy needs to be developed and put into action so that the company reaches its targets and objectives. Social media managers need to make sure the tone of voice they use is suitable to the audience the company is trying to reach.

Social media managers also have to build audience, reply to any feedback left in social media comments and work out how to deal with frequently occurring complaints. They also use social media stats to report on how successful and unsuccessful past social media campaigns have been. On top of this, they use tools such as Hootsuite and TweetDeck to schedule social media posts, catering to a global audience.

Social strategist jobs

Social strategists create social campaigns and strategies to meet certain goals for their organisation or – if working at an agency – their organisation’s clients. Social strategists track success of campaigns on social media and target social messaging for audiences, using tools that improve audience engagement. They know how to use and interpret analytics tools and think outside the box when it comes to using social media to achieve goals.

Community manager jobs

Community managers build a reputation for the company and extend its reach online. This includes creating things like Twitter chats for their industry or company to lead, organising offline networking events, moderating and participating in forum run by the organisation and more. Most community managers are excellent at emulating the company voice as well as handling any complaints or issues that may arise both efficiently and calmly.

Other social media roles include content programmers, bloggers, social networking analysts and social media developers.
