Schroders’ traineeship programme is your chance to gain a year of hands-on, paid work experience. If you’ve just finished your A-levels or your BTECs then this programme provides you with a chance to explore the world of work. We also accept applications from graduates.
Although you may have never heard of Schroders before visiting our website, this traineeship could be for you because key to the purpose of the programme is to teach you about what, why and how we do what we do.
On this programme, you’ll be part of our Operations teams within the Infrastructure part of our business.
As a trainee, you will receive ongoing training designed to develop throughout the year, where you will have the chance to improve your skills as well as your technical knowledge. We support you to take the Investment Foundation Certificate, which is a professional industry qualification and you’ll be paid competitively above the London living wage.

You’ll be based at our new Broadlands Business Campus near Horsham in West Sussex. That’s our new operations hub – home to our client servicing, product reporting and operational oversight for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

We support our global business by providing high quality and efficient operational oversight, processing and reporting across all of our business channels. Operations covers a broad spectrum of responsibilities from ensuring confirmation and settlement of trade activity, daily oversight of the funds Net Asset Value (NAV) to ensuring that we meet all of our Client, Fund and regulatory reporting obligations. It’s a busy and dynamic area with many exciting opportunities to build and develop your career.
What you’ll do
The teams and a brief summary of the types of activities you will be performing are as follows;
Trade Operations – You will be responsible for ensuring that all trading activity across equity, fixed income, FX, Unit Trusts and money market asset classes is confirmed and settled on a timely basis. Investigate settlement issues and managed failed trades to ensure a timely resolution. You will work with our investment teams, brokers and custodians on a daily basis.
Asset Servicing – You will be responsible for the researching and validating any corporate action affecting our held security universe. Liaising with investment teams to ensure elections are made and safely and securely instructed back to our custodians. You will ensure that all stock and cash entitlements are processed accurately and timely into the Investment Book of Record (IBoR)
Cash Operations – You will be responsible for a range of cash processing tasks supporting timely updates of cash flows, fees/expenses and trade related FXs, as well as instructing cash movements at custody. You will also support externally managed cash and security movements such as Short Term Investment Funds and collateral movements. Additionally, monitoring of overdrafts, overdraft interest and responding to cash related queries from the Investment teams.
IBoR Reconciliations – You will be ensuring the integrity of custody and cash position data is maintained within our internal systems through our daily reconciliation processes. You will ensure the complete reconciliation, investigation and allocation of all breaks are completed within set SLA’s and deadlines. Additionally, you’ll be responsible for the oversight and management of clearance of all breaks within the function.
Fund Oversight – You will be overseeing the work of our third party administrators to ensure the accurate and timely delivery of our fund NAVs and completion of cash and stock reconciliations. You will also support the oversight of our FX services by reviewing daily reports and calculations, along with the provision of fund accounting data for other internal teams.
Transfer Agency Oversight – You will be helping to deliver a risk-based oversight model to monitor the day-to-day operations of the transfer agent. In addition, you will contribute to the monitoring of cash flow notifications from global TAs, to ensure that the investment desks have accurate and timely fund subscription and redemption activity.
Reporting – Oversee and produce the day-to-day production of full, accurate and timely reports, making sure we hit internal and external deadlines. Maintain controls along the way with procedure documents for reporting processes, errors and best practice. Be part of integrating and establishing global, regional and country templates so we have accurate information and meet compliance requirements. Support the team become more efficient by spotting weaknesses in our process, suggesting and implementing solutions either individually or as part of wider projects.

- You’ll have at least 96 UCAS points and be 18 years old by Monday 7 September to apply for the 2020 intake
