About the programme

Join our dynamic team at Hinkley  Point C in Somerset as a Pipefitter Apprentice. Be a part of a ground-breaking project that will significantly reduce the UK's carbon emissions and drive the effort towards Net Zero.

Our 36 month Pipefitter Apprenticeship programme is an immersive learning experience, blending technical knowledge with practical training to help you gain the qualifications you need for a successful career.

In this role, you’ll develop the skills and experience needed to achieve Engineering Technician status and become a qualified pipefitter. As a Pipefitter Apprentice, you will:
•    Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.
•    Shape and profile pipes and components using power tools, mechanical cutting machines, and other equipment.
•    Learn how to work with various materials, such as carbon, stainless, and duplex steels
•    Prepare and fit piping systems according to engineering drawings and specifications.
•    Collaborate with pipe welders and across the wider business on various projects.
•    Receive specific training tailored to nuclear industry requirements.


In addition to the above, you’ll also receive training on accident and first aid, manual handling techniques, and working in potentially hazardous environments.


Your education/training

You’ll receive your training through Cavendish Nuclear on-site at Hinkley Point C in Bridgwater, and in the classroom at Bridgwater and Taunton College. The combination of real-world experience and classroom learning will help you to achieve your Level 3 Engineering Construction Pipefitter Apprenticeship.

Future prospects

Upon successfully completing the programme, you’ll become a certified construction pipefitter and can expect to earn a competitive salary exceeding £30,000. 
You may also have the opportunity to undertake higher-level qualifications to further your career within Cavendish Nuclear as part of the wider Babcock group across a variety of roles and functions. 

What you’ll need

•    A genuine interest in engineering and pipefitting.
•    At least five GCSE’s  with grades 4 (C) and above including Maths and English, or equivalent Level 2 English and Maths. 
•    Many of our early careers roles are subject to Security Clearance and Trade Control restrictions which mean that your place of birth, nationality, citizenship, or residency you hold or have held may impact which roles you are eligible for. For our early careers roles, you must be able to achieve BPSS and many of them require you to be eligible for Security Clearance.
