Ready to dive into the world of vehicle mechanics and maintenance? With our 3-year Vehicle Technician Apprenticeship, you’ll gain the knowledge and confidence you need to tackle any vehicle engineering problem and keep the British Army on the move.

About the programme

As a Vehicle Technician Apprentice, you’ll gain hands-on experience in everything from general vehicle maintenance through to diagnostics and complex repairs on military equipment – including Land Rovers, MAN fleet trucks and armoured track vehicles/tanks.

Working alongside an experienced mentor, your work will help provide fit and safe equipment to support military mechanical training for the British Army’s REME (Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers) tradespeople.

You’ll also gain invaluable skills in communication, decision making, and collaboration – ensuring you can effectively coordinate with team members, make informed judgments when tackling complex maintenance tasks, and successfully collaborate with colleagues to get results.

Your education/training

You’ll receive your training on site at Ministry of Defence Lyneham and on day release at New College Swindon, helping you to achieve a Level 3 in Motor Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician by the end of year three.

What you’ll need

  • A genuine interest in vehicle maintenance.
  • Key skills level 2 in Maths and English is desirable but not compulsory.
  • Many of our early careers roles are subject to Security Clearance and Trade Control restrictions which mean that your place of birth, nationality, citizenship, or residency you hold or have held may impact which roles you are eligible for. Further details are available at United Kingdom Security Vetting: clearance levels – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk). For our early careers roles, you must be able to achieve BPSS and many of them require you to be eligible for Security Clearance.

In addition, you’ll benefit from:

  • Fully funded qualification
