About the programme

By joining our Electrical Engineering Apprenticeship, you'll be at the forefront of developing innovative technologies that help create a safe and secure world.

You'll experience a variety of projects involving electrical, control, and instrumentation design from conceptual stages to manufacturing readiness. Working alongside experienced colleagues, you'll have the opportunity to contribute to important projects within nuclear new build, decommissioning, and defence sectors. You’ll also:

  • Create electrical drawings, calculations, specifications, schedules, and reports
  • Get hands-on experience with electrical installation and testing of hardware and software systems on-site
  • Use design tools such as AutoCAD, Trimble ProDesign, and Dialux
  • Receiving training in Electrical Safety and BS7671 (IET Electrical Wiring Regulations).

At the end of your apprenticeship, you’ll be on a clear path towards becoming a competent Electrical Engineer. We’ll also support you in achieving professional registration through the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET).

Your education/training

You’ll be studying for a Level 6 Nuclear Scientist and Nuclear Engineer Apprenticeship through Wigan & Leigh College. This combines theoretical learning with on-the-job training.

At the end of your apprenticeship, you’ll have earned a BEng in Nuclear Manufacturing and gained rich work experience in nuclear new build, decommissioning and defence projects.

What you’ll need
