BMW Hams Hall is a modern, high volume and complex automotive engine manufacturing site consisting of an engine component machining hall and an engine assembly hall providing engines for the BMW network.
Joining Our Logistics Team
Our Physical Logistics teams play a key role in supporting all areas of our business.
They are responsible for accurate and appropriate receiving, storage, line side supply, in complex highly automated stores environments, the purpose of which is ultimately the dispatch of finished products to customers requiring the highest supply quality with on time and in sequence deliveries. This is not a routine job as the demand on our production system from customers can mean an engine running off our assembly production line every 60 seconds: our machining area operates even quicker.
All of our BMW engineering based programs consist of the study of state of the art automotive production technology, as well as the latest innovations in manufacturing techniques, which start with you understanding the basic core engineering skills that these will based on.
When it comes to selecting the right people to become apprentices, it’s as much about attitude and behaviours as it is about vocational and academic success. That is why in addition to the qualifications we require from you, we’ll also look for you to have a range of skills, attributes and behaviours. These include: team working, as well as being able to work without close supervision; good communication skills; enthusiasm; and the ability to think logically.
This training takes place at Plant Hams Hall and a local college.
Apprenticeship Programme & Career Development:
BMW offers an enhanced Level 3 apprenticeship in comparison to others in industry. The three year programme is designed to enable you to experience different aspects of Engineering and production technology including: hand-skills, machining, fluid power, electronics, welding, robotics, control systems and many more.
You will develop specialist technical knowledge in Engineering Operations before progressing to a competency based qualification in Engineering, supported by a Level 3 National Certificate in Engineering.
The first year of the program is purely in a learning environment where in addition to starting the academic requirements of your program in engineering mechatronic based BTEC NC, you will undertake a practical based engineering program which covers core engineering skills such as milling and turning, hand skills, electrical and electronic circuits and control and fluid power, PLC’s etc.
In the following years you will undertake competency based training while working in a rotation with our maintenance teams around the site and complete the academic engineering course you have started. Additionally, depending on your performance and development, you could have the potential to move onto a foundation degree L5 in engineering.
Our mentors are always available to provide individual support and guidance, enabling you to customise training to suit your skills.
Personal development within the BMW Group never stops! This begins with vocational courses and continues with selective training throughout your career. A BMW Apprenticeship offers multiple career choices and enables you to make the most of your abilities.
A minimum of 5 GCSE’s (or equivalent) at level 5/C (or above) including Maths and English.
A technology related subject or a BTEC level 3 (60 credits plus) or equivalent in a relevant Engineering or Technology discipline would be advantageous but is not essential.
Your career with BMW Group will be designed to meet your individual aspirations and the business needs of an internationally recognised company. You start on a business awareness programme followed by career focused training in the relevant departments.
Rate of Pay:
A competitive salary enhanced annually depending on individual progress and performance starting at circa £13,000 per annum rising to over £25,000 over the programme.
Company car scheme eligibility to those 18 years and over, plus other benefits including an on-site gym, pension scheme, generous holiday allowance and a subsidised on-site restaurant.
39 hour working week, start and finish times will vary according to work based placements and college hours.
