What you'll be doing
Radio is a key part of our network as it allows us to provide services to customers in rural areas who may not have access to our fibre broadband. It also provides the infrastructure for our EE mobile network as well as radio links between our exchanges and other vital services.
The role of Radio & Rigging Technician is a specialist one which will require you to learn design, installation and maintenance skills and to have a detailed understanding of the network. You’ll also be taught how to establish and maintain our systems using a range of remote and physical tools to install hardware and software.
It’s a varied, exciting and rewarding job that could require you to work alone or as part of a team, and that could be office-based, field-based, or at remote sites. Our radio and rigging engineers regularly climb high radio towers and masts, so you’ll need to learn a range of new physical skills too. But don’t worry – we’ll give you plenty of training!
Training & Support
Throughout the course of your apprenticeship, you’ll gain a wealth of invaluable experience. You’ll also be taught job-specific skills such as logical and creative thinking and problem-solving. You’ll learn how to maintain a productive, professional and secure working environment.
You’ll need to be able to use own initiative and have a thorough and organised approach to work. You’ll have the flexibility and social skills needed to communicate effectively with people from all walks of life, and your written communication skills will also be good.
To join our Radio & Rigging Technician (Unified Communications Technician) Level 3 programme you’ll need to achieve five GCSEs at grades 4–9 (GCSE C or above) including English Language and Maths, or equivalent qualifications. You’ll also need a full driving licence with no more than six points.
We value different perspectives, skills and experiences. We’re creating an inclusive working culture where people from all backgrounds can succeed. That’s why we welcome applications from all parts of the community.
